Travis Thompson

State Representative Legislative District 1 Seat A

Biography & Background

I, Travis Thompson, am a proven conservative leader. I firmly believe in our natural rights, the right to life, liberty, and property.
Article 1 Section 1 of the Idaho State Constitution: INALIENABLE RIGHTS OF MAN. All men are by nature free and equal and have certain inalienable rights, among which are enjoying and defending life and liberty; acquiring, possessing, and protecting property; pursuing happiness and securing safety.

We live in a Republic. We elect representatives of the people to govern to the constitution. To preserve this Republic we must elect representatives who understand these principles and understand our legislative process. Throughout the years, I have learned our legislative process by writing, promoting, and seeing legislation passed. The ability to navigate this process determines the level of success. I have volunteered countless hours serving our community. This includes serving on the Farm Bureau Board, helping the Foundation for Wildlife Management with their predator management goals, standing on a flag line as a Patriot Guard rider, working in Boise during the legislative session to help support bills and resolutions that have an impact on our community and working one on one with community members who need help navigating the government process. I have enjoyed this immensely and wish to continue this service to our community.

I was born and raised in Bonner County and it was here also, that my 3 young adult children were born and raised. It has been my true joy to be part of their journey to the young adults they are now.
I started a general contracting company here in Bonner County in 1994. We are still in business today and continue to specialize in design-build general contract construction. I complete our projects according to the standards that have been established and are applicable to the work. I will carry this same motto to the State Legislature where the standard is the US and Idaho State Constitutions along with the Bill of Rights. In our republic, we have representatives of the people governing to the Constitutions and Bill of Rights. It will be my distinct pleasure to uphold this great tradition while representing everyone from District 1 before the Idaho Legislature.

I do appreciate your support during this primary election on May 17th,2022.

Top 3 Issues:

1. I am not a single issue candidate. Most aspects of our lives are governed through Federal and State laws, statutes, code and administrative rules. As an elected representative, I will represent the interests of the people in my district. This will be done as bills are presented before the Idaho Legislature or as I seek to change them as they currently exist. Civility in our governance process is of the upmost importance and is required in order have successful results. I will not pit one side against the other in an effort to establish control through mediating the middle. Success in our legislative process requires a majority and the majority is not motivated to action through divisiveness. Success in affecting a positive outcome requires your representative has values that you agree with, the ability to work with others and a working knowledge of our legislative process. I have spent countless hours over the last 10 years working with our current and former elected representatives to affect change through our legislative process, and valuable experience in navigating our legislative process.
2. Through the legislative process I will strengthen and support our natural rights: The right to peaceably assembly, to freedom of speech, to self defense, to due process of law, the right to life for the unborn, the right to individual medical freedom and to private property.
3. Through the legislative process I will strengthen the integrity of our elections, add more choices to our education system, support our free market economy, strengthen our States rights and work to reduce dependency on federal money. I will work to improve efficiency in state government by reducing taxes and simplifying our current tax structure. I will also work to reduce and simplify regulatory burden. I will also work to reestablish the balance of power between all three co-equal branches of government, and strengthen local governance.
