Stephen 'Craig' Yadon

State Representative Legislative District 29 Seat A

Biography & Background

Craig Yadon is seeking the Republican Party nomination for the Idaho House in Legislative District 29A.

Craig was educated right here in Pocatello. He graduated from Highland High School and from Idaho State University.

Craig is a family man. He and his wife, Mariya, have been married for 27 years and have raised four children. He is also a recent grandfather.

Craig is a successful businessman. He owned and operated a specialty industrial contracting business in Pocatello for 20 years. He sold this business to focus on community development in Pocatello. His current project is in Historic Downtown Pocatello, renovating the Petersen Building. Renamed the Purpose Building, it will serve as multi-use facility enriching our community’s future.

Craig is no stranger to service. He is a U.S. Army veteran and a chaplain volunteer at the Region VII Juvenile Detention Center. He spent 5 years with his family doing mission work in Thailand. Recently, Craig co-founded ‘New Start,’ a program developed to help released inmates get back on their feet. He serves as a Board member in his local church.

Serving in the Idaho State Legislature, Craig’s goals are to:

Promote the true purpose of government to protect our God-given rights

Defend Idaho State sovereignty, decrease dependence on the federal government and reduce nonproductive federal control

Eliminate wasteful spending and return tax dollars to the citizens

Provide parents with school choice

Protect medical freedom

Idaho must lead the way in education for citizenship. Idaho education policy should enable our children to be prepared for the workforce, and for the duties and rights of citizenship. Our Republic will not survive without civic virtue to sustain it. Education policy must allow students to experience the good, the true, and the beautiful in school. Only good citizens can produce a good society and the ultimate goal of education policy must be to produce good citizens.

Top 3 Issues:

1. Protect Freedom Idahoans should never be forced to choose between their God-given rights – protected under the U.S. Constitution – and their jobs. Medical freedom, privacy, and freedom of conscience must be protected. Families and parents should have maximum freedom to ensure Idaho public education meets their needs. Public education should reinforce the value of Idaho’s republican form of government. I believe that dollars should follow students to the best education choices available. The strength of our nation lies with our faith and reliance on God our Creator, as well as the individual and the family; each person’s dignity, freedom, ability, and responsibility must be protected by the rule of law. Individuals, families, businesses, and churches must have their rights protected – even and especially in an emergency. The right to defend ourselves and our families is paramount.
2. Less Government Government has an insatiable appetite for growth, and we must be ever vigilant if we are to prevent it from becoming a harsh master. As the size of government has increased in Idaho, negative impacts have abounded. We have become increasingly reliant on the federal government; with that reliance has come the erosion of our freedoms. We have witnessed government intrusion into every aspect of our lives. By taking federal dollars, we have helped contribute to a massive federal debt. The State of Idaho must decrease its reliance on federal funds and the strings attached to them. Idaho needs to reassert its sovereignty under the 10th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. I pledge to work to reduce the size and scope of government. I will work to ensure that Idahoans are free to regulate their own lives, not suffer under the dictates of bureaucrats.
3. Lower Taxes The State of Idaho needs to return to practicing fiscal responsibility. Taxpayers should only be responsible for providing the government with the amount of money necessary to function within its limited Constitutional authority. My aim is to dramatically lower the tax burden for Idahoans. The grocery tax should be eliminated. Income taxes must be lowered through decreased government spending. I pledge to work to truly control state spending, thus ensuring that Idaho’s citizens can keep more of their hard-earned money and not see it siphoned away in excessive taxes.
