Scott Syme

State Representative Legislative District 9 Seat B

Biography & Background

My promise to you is that I will never sell my vote based on a score or a grade by any lobbyist. My votes are based on the content of the legislation and how it affects my constituents and if it is good for Idaho.

I am pro-life and was endorsed by Right to Life
I am pro gun as a Patriot Life Member of the NRA
I am pro local control as specified in the Republican Platform

I was born in Weiser, Idaho and raised on a farm west of Weiser. After graduating from Weiser High School I attended and graduated with honors from the College of Idaho. After college I worked in the building industry and then in the retail trades. Currently, my wife of 43 years and I own Syme Real Estate with an office in Caldwell, Idaho. We also own and operate a 43 acre farm where we raise hair sheep and hay.

During the Reagan administration I enlisted in the US Army rising to the rank of Sergeant while on active duty. I was then commissioned as an Officer and following my active duty tour I served in the Reserve component for a total of 32 years. I retired in 2014 at the rank of Colonel. I served two combat tours of 1 year each deploying to Baghdad, Iraq both times in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

I have serve 3 terms in the Idaho House of Representatives, serving on the Education Committee for one term and on the Joint Finance and Appropriations Committee for 2 terms. Other committees are the Transportation and Defense and Commerce and Human Resources Committees for 6 years.

My wife Patti and I have 4 children and 8 grandchildren of which we couldn’t be more proud.

Top 3 Issues:

1. The safety of our transportation corridors is paramount to maintaining a vibrant economy.
2. Taxes on groceries. I drafted a bill to start the conversation on a reasonable approach to eliminating the tax on groceries which is the Idaho way. Not acquiescing to Federal standards.
3. Property taxes and the rise of the cost in housing. We want our children to stay and work in Idaho but they must be able to afford to live here.
