Sage Dixon

State Representative Legislative District 1 Seat B

Headshot of Sage Dixon for Idaho House District 1 Seat B

Biography & Background

My wife and I have been married for 27 yrs and have seven children that we raised on a small piece of acreage north of Sandpoint. We have been blessed to share our property with a variety of livestock, a wonderful garden, and are surrounded by beautiful views, and gracious neighbors. Living between Bonners Ferry and Sandpoint has allowed us to serve both communities in a variety of ways through the
Church, and charitable organizations, as well as in our daily business.
While in the legislature, I have served on a number of standing committees and interim committees, have been privileged to be Chairman of three committees, and have sponsored multiple pieces of legislation that have become law.
It has been an honor to have served the people of District 1 for the past 8 years, and I look forward to continuing to provide honest, conservative representation to our District for another term.

Top 3 Issues:

1. Property taxes:
Increasing home values and tax levies are placing a large burden upon many Idahoans, and especially those on fixed incomes. Amending our state constitution to allow for similar parcels to be assessed differently or doing away with property taxes altogether are two possible solutions that would make an immediate impact. There are also a host of other ideas that can be discussed in order to improve what is a very convoluted system.
2. Federal overreach:
Preventing the federal government from acting beyond its scope of constitutional authority within Idaho is a growing necessity. Also, the ongoing influence of federal dollars that drive policy in our state needs to be made clearer so legislators can make more informed decisions about whether or not the required actions are worth the dollars being offered.
3. Managing our Natural Resources:
Continuing to ensure Idaho has a strong voice in determining natural resource policy within the state is critical. Encouraging programs like the Good Neighbor Authority, and the Shared Stewardship Advisory Council, will help to mitigate wildfire risk, increase access to public lands, and protect our lakes and rivers.
