Ramont Turnbull

United States Senator

Biography & Background

I am not a lawyer or a career politician, BUT…

• I earned a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from a Top 10 Accounting School. I paid my way through school washing hi-rise windows; I'm not afraid of high places.

• I’ve been married 40 years. We have 9 children, with strong personalities and opinions, yet we all get along pretty well. I think that makes me the ultimate politician.

• I excel at bringing together the right people to meet a challenge. I do it daily working for a high-tech company in the Treasure Valley.

• I lived in Colombia for 2 years and worked in Mexico for 15.

• I have seen what poor political policies can do to countries and to people I love. I see it happening here in our country and I know I can make a difference.

Back to the statement about law degrees and career politicians, let me ask: HOW'S THAT WORKING OUT FOR US?

• I will defend the Constitution, first and foremost.
• I will never dishonor your trust, nor the state of Idaho, nor the United States.
• I will be informed and keep you informed.
• I will work hard, be prepared, be where I am supposed to be, and be there on time.
• I will work with a sense of urgency, and never get comfortable in this office.
• I will not over-promise and under-deliver; if something cannot be done, I will tell you.
• I will be relentless in my efforts to serve and honor the promises made.

Platform – Very Simple
1. We the People
• The Constitution of the United States is structured to limit the power of the Federal Government.
• We the People need to know those limits.
• I promise to defend those limits.

2. Accountability
• First, any legislation I vote for must be good for individuals, households, families, and businesses. These are the people that make this country run.
• Second, it must be constitutional. There are a lot of good ideas that are unconstitutional. Those “good ideas” can be addressed by the States and the People, as stated in the 10th Amendment.

3. Low Taxes
• Individuals, households, families, and businesses know best how to spend their money.
• We need to end Big Government’s unlimited discretionary use of our earnings.
• Government should take only what is necessary to fulfill their limited responsibilities.

4. Integrity, Hard Work, Relentless
• Our country is facing some very hard times and many people are suffering.
• I will always work with a sense of urgency in protecting our freedoms.

I love God, my family and my friends. I love Idaho and I love our country.

If this message resonates with you, I ask you to share my name with friends and family. Thank you, and may God bless America.

Top 3 Issues:

1. Shortly after the U.S. Constitution was signed, James Madison, Alexander Hamilton, and John Jay wrote the Federalist papers. Federalist #45 states: “The powers delegated by the…Constitution to the Federal Government are few and defined.”
I am running for the U.S. Senate because the LIMITS, those powers that are few and defined, have been forgotten.
I will NEVER vote for anything unconstitutional. I may not win a lot of friends at first, but I will earn respect as I keep my promises. With that respect I will find colleagues that share my beliefs and we will make a difference. Some are already in Congress; some are yet to join. There is much to do. Together, with We the People, we can get it done.
To do so I will use perhaps the best skill my Heavenly Father has given me, COLLABORATION. I am a Business Development Manager for a technology firm in the Treasure Valley. On a daily basis I bring together our engineers, scientists, and PhDs with those of my customers to solve problems and develop new and amazing technologies. I will use this skill in Washington to make a difference.
2. Taxes –
•Individuals, households, families, and businesses know best how to spend their money. We need to end the Federal Government’s unlimited discretionary use of our earnings. Government should take only what is necessary to fulfill their LIMITED responsibilities.
•Lower taxes help everyone, including the Federal Government. This has been proven on numerous occasions under multiple administrations. Ronald Reagan, John F. Kennedy, and other administrations have applied these principles. Why do we have to relearn this lesson? When business is taxed less, they have money for hiring more people, for research and development, which requires more hiring. The R & D then leads to new product lines which require more people. More people paying modest taxes lead to more tax revenues and funds available for the Federal Government to meet their LIMITED obligations, stay within budget, and reduce our national debt.
•Lower our taxes and get out of the way. The American work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit will always build the economy faster, better, and stronger than any government-regulated program. Why do we have to re-learn this lesson? Shame on Washington for their relentless efforts to increase the financial burdens imposed on We the People.
3. We the People are the Term Limits –
Term Limits for U.S. Senators and U.S. Representatives (collectively, the U.S. Congress) have been in place since the Constitution was drafted in 1787. During the past 30 years much has been written and spoken about the need for congressional term limits. Polls show more than 80% of the people are in favor of term limits. There are non-profit foundations that promote the need for term limits. But we already have them.
At the very core of the Constitution is the active participation of We the People. We the People give our consent to Senators and Representatives we elect to serve and represent us in Congress. They take an oath to faithfully “support and defend” the Constitution of the United States. If they dishonor our trust and their oath and work outside the limits of the Constitution, then We the People must remove them from office. We the People exercise this power at the ballot box. We the People ARE the Term Limits.
If you are concerned about term limits please exercise your right at the ballot box to make a change.
