Mike Olsen

State Representative Legislative District 14 Seat A

Biography & Background

In many ways, my life began and has only gotten better while living in Idaho.

Idaho allowed me to get an education. I was the first in my family to graduate from college, earning my first degree at Boise State University. I went on to earn dual degrees in law, and since then, I became the youngest tax attorney for a large publicly traded company.

Idaho welcomed me and taught me how to successfully run my own business, helping it grow to employ over 200 people. I have learned first-hand that if big government just got out of people’s way and let the hard-working people of this state run their businesses as they know best, people will succeed.

Idaho is where I met my wife, Carolyn. She has been my biggest supporter and inspiration through years of hard work and perseverance. As a competitive triathlete, racing in more than 30 Ironman races across the globe, I have learned from her the grit and determination needed to overcome seemingly impossible conditions and challenges.

Idaho, you have given me so much, and I feel it is my civic responsibility to give back. Idaho legislators should work to cultivate an environment that provides all Idahoans the equal opportunity to pursue their dreams without government interference. I have spent years fighting as a tax attorney for a public company, fighting as a business owner for my company and I would like to use that experience to now fight for you in the Idaho State House. To the voters of this great state, will you help me do just that?

Top 3 Issues:

1. As your State Representative, I will work to cut taxes for all Idahoans. As a businessman, I know how to make Idaho lead the nation in terms of a positive tax climate and will work to help businesses and families flourish.
2. Bureaucratic officials and red tape have too much control over our businesses, neighborhoods and families. I believe all Idahoans should have control of their lives and will fight to reduce regulations in our state.
3. As a first generation college graduate from a public university in Idaho, I know what needs to be done to fix our education system. I’m committed to making sure parents have control of what their children are being taught in the classroom and ensuring that parents and kids can choose where they go to school.
