Jason Knopp

State Representative Legislative District 23 Seat A

Biography & Background

Jason Knopp was raised in Kuna, Idaho where he graduated in 1997, and has lived in Melba, Idaho for 22 years.

Jason grew up as a testament to the power of public service. His step-father was a police officer for 30 years, and it helped inspire his early service as a volunteer fire fighter for Melba fire. Soon after, he grew into a professional firefighter where he has served in the Nampa Fire Department for over 14 years. Jason is currently a Driver/Operator for Nampa Fire, and enjoys serving the patrons of Nampa in that role.

Jason has also served for 8 years on the Melba School Board, where he is currently the Board Chair. He is proud of the work he has done to serve the students and families of Melba, and even more having done-so utilizing only the state appropriation and not relying on voter-approved supplemental levies.
He has also served on the Idaho School Boards Association Executive Board for 7 years – four years representing “”small school districts”” for Region 3 and currently as ISBA President. During that time, he has co-chaired two committees for bylaw changes, taking significant time and care to ensure all voices of school board members are heard at the Association Level. He also served as the ISBA representative for the Idaho High School Athletic Activities Association for nearly 5 years.

Top 3 Issues:

1. Small/limited government I strongly believe in the principle of limited government and support local governance – where the government closest to the people is in the best position to serve their communities. School boards, highway districts and fire districts are few examples of small government closest to the people. I believe we need to maintain local control for these elected officials.
2. Taxes I am keenly aware of the need to protect citizens ability to remain in their home without being overburdened by property taxes, and will advocate for responsible tools where growth can “”pay for itself”” to support the improvements and infrastructure demanded by growth without relying on the existing taxpayers to pay the bill. We have to protect those that built Idaho, we can’t tax the out of their homes.
3. Education This should be a top priority for all. It is the responsibility of the state to properly fund our system of schools and to enhance each community’s opportunity for excellence with their school. I would like to see schools and parents work together to provide innovation in the way that works best for their community. Career Technical Education (CTE) is under served in our state I will use my experience with Public Education to find innovative ways to offer this to all students Idaho. I am not for defunding public education, I believe the legislature should work with local districts and parents to create a world class competitive education system.
