Edward Humphreys

Governor

Biography & Background

I was deeply disturbed to discover a ruling class of career politicians in this state who funnel our tax dollars to private organizations that don’t support American values, family values, or law and order! I was urged to run for governor by the same people I worked with on several successful citizen-led efforts.

As a private citizen, I introduced a bill into the legislature that banned teaching critical race theory in schools. I formed the Citizens Committee for Election Integrity that crafted 14 election standards that were adopted by the State and National GOP. I currently serve as Region IV Chairman on the Idaho Republican Party Executive Committee.

I am a first-generation American whose mother and brother fled communism from the former Yugoslavia. I have a deep, personal understanding of how freedoms are lost. I grew up in poverty and worked in the oil fields as a roughneck. Later, I became a financial advisor with a Masters in Finance and a Graduate Certificate in Financial Analysis. I have studied thousands of pages of state fiscal reports and understand how we are funding our own path to become more like Portland and Seattle. My family is putting everything on the line because we wholeheartedly believe it’s NOW or never to make a serious course correction, so we don’t end up like so many other garbage-heap leftist states. The change we want will come from citizen leaders, not career politicians.

Top 3 Issues:

1. Restore Government for the People:
Our Founding Fathers understood that when our God-Given Rights are protected, as outlined in the Constitution, people do better. I emphatically reject the “central planning model” where society’s problems are solved by “experts” who make decisions for the “collective good.” Programs and policies based upon the collective good may sound compassionate, but make no mistake, the aim of the collective good is collective control.
To protect Idaho Sovereignty, I will:
A) Begin the process of divorcing Idaho from federal grant money.
B) Fight federal overreach into Constitutional freedoms.
C) Require government agencies and administrative rules to be within the confines of the US and Idaho Constitution.
D) Support citizen lawmakers rather than career politicians through term limits for Governor and for U.S. Congress.
2. Abolish Idaho Income Tax:
At the end of 2021, Idaho state income tax was higher than 39 other states, sales tax was higher than 33 other states, and fuel tax was higher than 31 other states. Utilizing state budget surpluses and cash and investments (PERSI pension funds NOT included), I will permanently phase out income tax with no disruption to essential services. I propose a true tax decrease, NOT a shell game where taxes are raised elsewhere. On average, taxpayers will have $3,000 more per year in their pockets.
To protect your money I will:
A) Use a line-item veto to cut waste and fraud in the state budget.
B) Shield taxpayers from future tax hikes with a Taxpayer Bill of Rights.
C) Ban all state agencies from hiring lobbyists to secure funding and avoid oversight.
D) Cap property taxes.
3. School Choice for Families:
In the Founder’s blueprint, problems are solved by returning power to the people. Families, not lobbyists and the IEA, should decide how their children are educated. School Choice is “a hill I am ready to die on.”
My education plan will:
A) Allow the money to follow the students so parents can choose from a robust network of public schools, charter schools, private schools, or homeschool.
B) I would require each member of the State Board of Education to sign a pledge affirming the recommendations of President Trump’s 1776 Commission for patriotic education or be asked to resign.
C) To facilitate the creation of new schools, I advocate a loan program for innovative teachers to buy buildings to start their own micro-schools. Teachers would make more money under school choice.

Integrity in Affiliation

Submission: Yes

“I have read the Idaho Constitution and the Idaho Republican Party Platform. Except for the provisions specifically noted below, I support the Idaho Republican Party Platform and accept it as the standard by which my performance as a candidate and as an officeholder should be evaluated. I certify that I am not a candidate, officer, delegate or position holder in any party other than the Republican Party.”

I oppose Article 1, Section 5, subsection E because I SUPPORT imposing term limits as does the National Republican Party Platform.

I oppose Article 7, Section 1, subsection C if “economic development” translates to rewarding multinational corporations with tens of millions of dollars of tax breaks that then must be paid by small Idaho businesses.
