Biography & Background

Rep. Dorothy Moon Candidate for Secretary of State

I currently represent District 8, the largest District in the State of Idaho (Lemhi, Custer, Boise, Gem, Valley Counties). I am in my third term and currently serve on the House Education, Resources & Conservation and Agricultural Affairs Committees.

I have a Bachelor of Science in secondary education in comprehensive science and Master of Science in resource planning, both from Missouri State University. I retired from Challis High School (2012) as special education director and science teacher. I am the President of Moon & Associates Inc., an engineering and land surveying business since 1994 and an owner in gold mining operations in central Idaho. I have been married to my husband Darr for 30 years and have two adult sons.

No one can question my commitment to conservative principles. I am the proven conservative in the race for Secretary of State. I have always represented rural Idaho by adhering to the Republican Platform. I have an American Conservative Union lifetime rating of 98%. I was voted 2018 Outstanding Republican Legislator by Idaho GOP. Recently, I have been named as a Fellow with Club for Growth. I am a lifetime member of the NRA.

I have recently been honored to represent Idaho on the America First Secretary of State Coalition.

Top 3 Issues:

1. I declared on November 2nd, my campaign, to run for Idaho Secretary of State. America’s system of free and fair elections is under attack, and that threatens the continued existence of our Republic. The Biden administration is pushing for nationalized elections. I promise to fight for Idaho to always control our elections. There can be no issue greater than everyone’s concern about the integrity of our voting system, the cornerstone of our great Republic. I am committed to ensure, all vested with the right to vote can vote without impunity or discrimination. Electors can be assured their vote will count and that by no means will votes cast to alter or maliciously falsify the outcome of any election be tolerated. Those who test such constraints of law will face penalties. Without such assurance there is no rule of law, no affirmation that people are the wellspring of power or that any such vested rights are rights at all.
2. An important duty of the Secretary of State is to serve on the State Board of Land Commissioners. I will work to ensure we get the highest economic return on our State managed lands for our schools. Fuels reduction programs, forest service planning, grazing allotments concerns, water rights issues and mine permitting are many of the issues I have dealt with over the past six years in my rural district. My formal education in resource planning makes me highly qualified to deal with lands issues across the State. With a majority of Idaho’s lands federally managed, opportunities for our children to return to their rural homes are becoming increasingly limited. Idaho needs a leader who is willing to stand up to the Federal government and demand an end to smoke-filled summers and idled natural resource jobs. With abundant resources Idaho’s future can remain bright affording economic prosperity, clear skies, and clean water for all.
3. The Secretary of State works with the public to deal with business filings, lobbyist registration, trademarks, notaries and campaign finance reporting. The Secretary of State’s office will be open from 8 to 5 to allow the public access to staff during business hours.
