It’s time to say enough to Idaho Democrats’ long streak of falsely calling Republicans “Nazi,” “racist,” “white nationalist” and other vile accusations while the Democrats themselves are repeatedly associating with a left-wing extremist group.
Last week, Democrat District 5 State House candidate Laurene Sorensen effectively called her Republican opponent a Nazi in remarks at a Democratic candidate forum in Moscow hosted by the Palouse chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). The DSA frequently expresses hatred for the police, wants to “incite class war,” and espouses a slew of other extremist views. The DSA’s virulent hatred of Israel and Zionism has caused even fellow leftists to call it out repeatedly for anti-Semitism (two examples are here and here).
Sorensen also said a “faith group” in Idaho she didn’t name has a tradition of “taking care of its own, but that leads to some xenophobia.”
Sorensen has since apologized for the Nazi remarks, but as far as we know not for her other offensive remarks about the “faith group” she claimed causes xenophobia. Also as far as we know, the other Democrats sitting next to her — Rebecca Schroeder, Cristina McNeil and David Nelson — haven’t denounced or even criticized them either. In fact, in a new video of the forum, Schroeder and McNeil appear to be nodding during some of Sorensen’s comments.
Also last week, Democrat Lieutenant Governor candidate Kristin Collum strongly implied that her Republican opponent Janice McGeachin is a “racist” and a “white nationalist.” In August Collum sent out a fundraising email calling McGeachin a “white supremacist.” An online troll who’s a fanatic Collum supporter and may very well be Collum’s self-described “Chief Security Officer” on cybersecurity issues has called McGeachin a “Nazi.”
But just a few weeks ago Collum was happy to appear at a “Progressive Festival” put on by Ada County Democrats where the Boise chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America was prominently featured.
The hypocrisy and double standards of Idaho Democrats are off the charts. They need to address the bigotry and the ongoing association with left-wing extremism in their own party.
